Let’s Get Cooking: Step-by-Step Instructions

Don’t let the shape fool you, making these is a breeze. Here’s the breakdown on how I get these rice krispie turkey legs done:

Step 1: Get a big pot out and melt your butter on low heat. Throw in all the mini marshmallows and just keep stirring. You’re looking for a smooth, melted goo with no lumps. Then kill the heat.

Step 2: Now add the vanilla and salt and give it one more good stir.

Step 3: Time to pour in the Cocoa Krispies. Fold them in gently so you don’t smash the cereal to dust. Just make sure everything is coated.

Step 4: Definitely butter your hands or use non-stick spray for this next part, otherwise it’s a sticky mess. Grab a handful of the mixture and mold it onto the end of a pretzel rod to make that drumstick shape.

Step 5: Put your finished turkey legs on a sheet of parchment paper. Just let them sit on the counter for a half-hour or so to set up.

Step 6: Melt your vanilla wafers in the microwave. Do it in short 20-second bursts and stir in between so it doesn’t burn. Dip the bare pretzel end in the melted white stuff to make the little “bone.”

Step 7: Let them sit on the parchment paper again until that white coating is totally hard.

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A half teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups Cocoa Krispies cereal
  • 12 pretzel rods
  • A 12 ounce bag of vanilla melting wafers or white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Take a big bowl and melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until you get a smooth mix. Turn off the heat.
  2. Add the vanilla and salt and mix it up good
  3. Gently mix the cocoa crispies. Just cover them quickly without breaking them.
  4. Grease your hands with butter well so the mixture doesn’t stick. Grab a handful of the mix and squeeze it around the pretzel stick to shape it like a drumstick.
  5. Put them all on parchment paper and just let them sit for about a half hour to get firm
  6. Melt the white waffle in the microwave. Do it in short bursts so it doesn't burn. Dip the end of a regular pretzel to make it look like a bone.
  7. Let them sit on the paper again until the white part hardens completely.

Notes

  1. Using fresh marshmallows makes a big difference because they melt better.
  2. Work a bit faster while mixing because it starts to harden.
  3. If the white paint is too thick, just add a tiny bit of ghee, don’t use water.
