Forget guacamole. Seriously. This avocado crema recipe is what you should be making. It’s that creamy green sauce that makes you wonder why your homemade tacos never taste quite as good as the ones from your favorite spot. This is it. It’s smooth, tangy, and I find excuses to make it. The whole thing takes just a few minutes and makes even a simple meal feel a little more put-together.
It’s just so much better than plain avocado. This creamy avocado sauce has a freshness from the lime and cilantro that you just don’t get otherwise. It’s become my go-to topping for just about everything, especially as an avocado crema for tacos.

Here’s What You’ll Need
No weird ingredients here. The only thing you need to worry about is getting good avocados. Not the rock-hard ones and definitely not the ones that are already brown inside. Just perfectly ripe.
- 2 large ripe avocados
- 1/2 cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
- Juice from 1 big lime
- 1 garlic clove
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- A little water

How to Whip It Up
Step 1: Combine Everything
This is hardly a recipe. Scoop the avocado into a blender, then just add everything else in with it. The sour cream, cilantro, lime juice, garlic, salt. All of it.
Step 2: Blend Until Smooth
Blend it. Let it run until it looks completely smooth. Check the consistency. If it’s too thick, like a paste, add a tiny bit of water and blend again. Do that until you can drizzle it. That’s the key for a good avocado crema for tacos.
Step 3: Taste and Serve
Now taste it. Don’t skip this. It might need more salt, maybe you like it more limey. You decide. If you actually have leftovers, the only way to save it is to press plastic wrap right down on the surface of the crema before you put a lid on. It keeps the air out and stops it from turning brown.

Where I Put This Crema
I make a batch of this avocado crema recipe pretty much weekly. It goes on tacos, obviously. But I also use this creamy sauce on grain bowls, with eggs, or just as a dip for carrot sticks when I’m feeling snacky. It’s just a great thing to have in the fridge. Let me know in the comments if you make it and what you did with it. I’m curious.
