French Toast for One

Honestly, this French Toast for One is my little trick for a good morning. Sometimes you just wake up craving a single perfect slice of French toast, right? But making a whole batch is just too much hassle and mess. This French toast recipe is the perfect solution. It’s all about turning one slice of bread into something truly delicious without feeling like you ran a marathon in the kitchen before 9 AM.

French Toast for One

Ingredients

  • 1 thick slice of bread (Seriously if you have brioche or challah, use that. It’s just better. But regular sturdy bread is totally fine too)
  • 1 large egg
  • About 3 tablespoons of milk (I use whole milk, but whatever you’ve got works)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A tiny pinch of salt (it really does help balance the flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for the pan)
  • Your toppings: Maple syrup, berries, powdered sugar… whatever makes you happy.

Here’s How You Do It

Step 1: Alright, grab a bowl that’s big enough for the bread to lie flat. A pie dish works well for this. Put in the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Whisk everything together until it’s well blended.

Step 2: Dunk your bread slice right into the egg mix. Let it sit for maybe 20-30 seconds on each side. You want it to soak up the egg stuff but not turn to complete mush, you know?

Step 3: While the bread is soaking, get a small pan heating up over medium heat. Drop the butter in and let it melt and get a little bubbly.

Step 4: Place your bread dipped in egg onto the hot pan greased with butter. Now, just let it cook. Don’t try poking it. After two or three minutes, take a look at the bottom. If it’s nice and golden, flip it. Do the same for the other side.

Step 5: That’s pretty much it. Put it on your plate. Throw some fresh berries on top, maybe a little sprinkle of powdered sugar, and definitely don’t forget the maple syrup.
